INTENT
- To actively take part in counting songs and rhymes
- To be confident at counting to 10 and beyond
- To be a confident and skilled problem solver
- Be able to make comparisons between objects relating to size, length, weight and capacity
- To competently complete jigsaws and puzzles and build and construct with a range of materials and resources
- To recognise numerals and link them with the correct amounts
- Learn about shapes and patterns within play and their environment.
- Understand and use positional language
IMPLEMENTATION
We learn all about our numbers!

Our numbers are the building blocks in mathematics, we start early singing number songs with visual prompts and written numbers. We use our maths stations which are equipped with an assortment of blocks, beads, teddies, shells etc to make maths fun. We count confidently, we learn about the relationships between numbers, what comes before, what comes next and we recognise patterns in numbers. We explore outside gathering up nuts and pinecones and we use them in our maths work. We count out loud as our friends hide amongst the trees and the flower beds. We look for shapes in everything we do and we relate maths to our everyday life.

and can copy simple colour sequences. We use mathematical speech, positional language and comparisons in sizes, length and weight when playing in the water, sand, during obstacle courses and during everyday play. Children enjoy designing and constructing with a range of materials from blocks to stickle bricks to recycled junk.
